The WHO reconfirms that several Indian cities have become death traps because of very high level of PM2.5 (particulate matter less than 2.5 micron size). Of the 20 most polluted cities in the world, the top 14 are in India. These include Kanpur, Faridabad, Varanasi, Gaya, Patna, Delhi, Lucknow. Soot, dust, ozone, and sulfur oxides are a growing threat for billions of people around the world. The World Health Organization reported that 93 percent of all children in the world breathe air with pollution levels that exceed their guidelines. A whopping nine in 10 people on Earth breathe highly polluted air, and more than 80 percent of urban dwellers have to endure outdoor pollution that exceeds health standards, according to the WHO’s World Global Ambient Air Quality Database.
Air pollution refers to the release of pollutants into the air that are detrimental to human health and the planet as a whole. Air pollutants can be in the form of particulate matter which can be very harmful to our health. The level of effect usually depends on the length of time of exposure, as well the kind and concentration of chemicals and particles exposed to. Short-term effects include irritation to the eyes, nose and throat, and upper respiratory infections such as bronchitis and pneumonia. Others include headaches, nausea, and allergic reactions. Short-term air pollution can aggravate the medical conditions of individuals with asthma and emphysema. Long-term health effects can include chronic respiratory disease, lung cancer, heart disease, and even damage to the brain, nerves, liver, or kidneys. Continual exposure to air pollution affects the lungs of growing children and may aggravate or complicate medical conditions in the elderly.
We in association with Schneider electric Foundation, have taken steps to reach out to the younger generations of our country (the school children), to educate them as well as motivate them for performing activities like Green Cop activity under CONSERVE MY PLANET Program,in which the young ambassadors visited the petrol pump to spread awareness about the importance of curbing pollution caused by vehicles. Also the Power Detective Activity the young green ambassadors act as the power detectives in their campus and ensure that energy is not wasted in campus and the campus is kept clean and green.
Join hands in supporting us and protecting our environment.
“Be the solution, not the part of Pollution!!
