Of  133.92 crore population of India, about 63 Million people suffer from significant hearing loss. Hearing disability was 2nd most common cause of disability & top most cause of sensory deficit. In urban areas the loss was 9% of all disability & in rural areas, it was 10%. Many people can’t afford the treatment or even the check-up.

The unit of measure for sound intensity is the decibel (dB). A healthy human ear can hear quiet sounds such as whispers. These are about 20 dB. A loud sound such as a jet engine is between 140 and 180 dB.

Hearing loss due to infections are preventable but people are not aware of the treatments or checkups that need to be done and hence they suffer from a lifelong disability.

What Is Audiometry?

An audiometry exam tests how well your hearing functions. It tests both the intensity and the tone of sounds, balance issues, and other issues related to the function of the inner ear. A doctor who specializes in diagnosing and treating hearing loss called an audiologist administers the test.

Why Audiometry Is Performed?
An audiometry test is performed to determine how well you can hear. This may be done as part of a routine screening or in response to a noticeable loss of hearing.

We have conducted an audiometry camp in Civil Hospital, Sector 10, Gurugram.

We have facilitated approx 800 people till now.

• Its Impact on people-
  Many people got to know about there hearing deficts via the audiometry camp, the small kid’s parents got to know about the defects of hearing present in their children and it was a great help for the parents as this defect can be corrected in the initial stages of life and for the elder people hearing aids could be a solution for this problem.
• People got the tests of Ear mold impression, tunning fork test, play audiometry test was being done and cleaning of ear wax was done for people with zero cost consumed from them. Also counselling was being provided to all the beneficiaries.

We at SHARP are taking steps to educate people regarding the hearing loss, hearing disability, their treatments and scope of treatment, the empaneled hospitals,etc.
We believe in working towards the cause of the problem, we identify the problems through camps and even refer people to hospitals for further treatments in case of treatable hearing defects.
