Webinar on School Vaccination challenges and readiness
12 Dec 2020
Vaccines save millions of lives each year. Vaccines work by training and preparing the body’s natural defenses --- the immune system--- to recognize and fight off the viruses and bacteria they target. If the body is exposed to those disease-causing germs later, the body is immediately ready to destroy them, preventing illness. Immunization services are a critical component of the GoI’s child survival strategy. Over the past 20 years, there has been a general decline in the reported number of cases of VPDs. However, in recent years there has been an increasing trend in the number of reported measles, diphtheria and pertussis cases. The world is in the midst of a COVID-19 pandemic. Several countries have come together in the race to find a vaccine. There are currently more than 100 COVID-19 vaccine candidates under development, with a number of these in the human trial phase.
